If you would like to get a taste of the sea air, then you should consider Kiel Week as a vacation. Over nine days, you will explore various exciting places, all of which have something to tell about the history or even the present of shipping. Culturally, you will start your journey in Berlin and Potsdam, which offer you numerous sights, such as the government building or Sanssouci Palace. Rothensee then literally creates a monument with its former boat lift. Just as historically interesting, our journey takes you on to places such as Calvörde or Uelzen, where you can learn lots of new things. The grand finale is provided by the large cities of Hamburg and Kiel, which combine urban structures with maritime history.

Berlin
Berlin is the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany. Due to its great historical and contemporary significance, the city has many sights to offer. First of all, some well-known landmarks should probably be mentioned here: The Brandenburg Gate, the TV tower and the Victory Column. In addition, all important government buildings are also located here: for example, the Reichstag with the famous Reichstag dome is definitely worth a visit. Furthermore, there are the sites of some important historical events to see, such as "Checkpoint Charlie" or the "East Side Gallery", a remnant of the Berlin Wall. There is also no lack of shopping opportunities, so among other things the Kurfürstendamm is very well known.
Potsdam
The capital of Brandenburg, Potsdam, is the most populous city in Brandenburg with about 180,000 inhabitants. However, Potsdam convinces primarily by a whole number of worthwhile sights, which even count to the UNESCO world cultural heritage. After all, the city was already in 1990 included in the so-called list of world cultural and natural heritage of mankind, because there is the largest German collection of world heritage sites. Since 2019, the Brandenburg city may also call itself a UNESCO film city. However, the most famous and important sights are definitely the famous Sanssouci Palace with its beautiful palace park, as well as the Potsdam Film Museum and the Mill Museum in the Historic Mill.
Rothensee
Rothensee is located in the north of Magdeburg and is known for its famous ship lift, which is a true work of art due to its technical construction. The construction of the ship lift has historically been a milestone for water transport technology, but was already decommissioned in 2006 because the dimensions of the construction are too small for today's ships. For these reasons, the ship lift nowadays only serves as a monument.
Calvörde
The town of Calvörde is located in northwestern Saxony-Anhalt and is about 50 kilometers north of Magdeburg. Calvörde is a quiet and idyllic town, but it is also quite lively. The oldest mention of the city dates back to 1046. Calvörde Saxony-Anhalt is extremely worth seeing and impresses with many historic buildings and sights. The market square is the center of Calvörde and here are also the oldest buildings of the city. The town hall was built in 1331 and is therefore the oldest building. The castle of Calvörde was built in the 15th century and is also very popular with tourists. In recent years it has been restored several times and now offers space for various exhibitions and events. If you want to learn more about the history of Calvörde, you should definitely visit the St. Wendelinus Church. This church dates back to the 11th century and is one of the oldest churches in Saxony-Anhalt.
Uelzen
Uelzen is a Hanseatic town in Lower Saxony and was formerly called Löwenwalde. Today, Uelzen is best known for its Hundertwasser train station. Even those who arrive not by train but by ship should not miss this imposing structure. From here, the path of stones leads to the inner city area. The total of twenty stone sculptures were created by the artist Dagmar Glemme and are colorful eye-catchers in the city area. In the center of Uelzen in Lower Saxony, buildings such as the Old Town Hall, the Imperial Post Office and the New Town Hall are worth seeing. The Church of St. Mary, built in 1270, is also an important sight. It houses the so-called Golden Ship, which, along with the Hundertwasser train station, is a landmark of the city. In the area of Lüneburger Strasse and Gudesstrasse runs the pedestrian zone of Uelzen with various stores and gastronomic offerings.
Lauenburg
Located just outside Hamburg, the small town of Lauenburg has a beautiful old town, which nestles picturesquely on the slopes of the Elbe River and is home to many galleries and arts and crafts businesses. Thanks to the charming atmosphere of the town, walks in this district are very nice. Also worth seeing is the lovingly designed Elbschifffahrtsmuseum, which is housed in a historic building in the middle of the old town and vividly depicts the most important aspects of shipping on the Elbe, which has always been very important for Lauenburg.
Hamburg
Hamburg is a port city on the Alster River, which is a tributary of the Elbe. At the same time it is one of the three new federal states since the reunification of Germany. The Hamburg fish market is a popular tourist magnet. The Reeperbahn is one of the most visited attractions in the city. Visitors can get up close to their stars at the Panoptikum, a wax museum. The Speicherstadt offers cafes, museums and smaller canals and the Elbphilharmonie, which is located on the banks of the Elbe, is considered a "cultural monument for all".
