Many travelers see Stralsund on the way to Rügen only from the car. A big mistake, because the proud Hanseatic city is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful historical cities in Germany. In the 14th century, the city was even the most important trading metropolis in the entire Baltic region, next to Lübeck. No wonder, the entire inner city of Stralsund with its more than 500 listed buildings is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Numerous magnificent buildings in the old town of Stralsund still bear witness to its former prosperity. The steeples of the three mighty parish churches can be seen from afar. With a height of 104 meters, the tower of St. Mary's Church stands out in particular. From the 90-meter-high viewing platform, you can enjoy a dreamlike panoramic view over the roofs of the city and the sea all the way to Rügen. In addition to the churches, Stralsund's town hall is also one of the most beautiful buildings of the North German brick Gothic. However, Stralsund is not only worth a visit for people interested in history and architecture, but also for animal and sea fans. With the Ozeaneum and the Meeresmuseum, the Hanseatic city is home to two large marine museums and aquariums, which are particularly popular with children. The same applies to the small but fine Stralsund Zoo. Last but not least, ship lovers also get their money's worth in Stralsund, either on a harbor tour or aboard the sail training ship Gorch Fock.

Greifswald-Wieck is an old, listed fishing village, built five kilometers east of the Hanseatic city of Greifswald on the river Ryck. Its history dates back to the 13th century. The main attraction of Greifswald-Wieck is the wooden bascule bridge built in 1887: Still in operation, it connects Wieck and Eldena and is opened every hour by means of a rotary crank. Also worth seeing are the fishermen's houses with their typical thatched roofs and the picturesque harbor, where the sail training ship "Greif" is anchored.

The island of Rügen and especially the town of Lauterbach have a lot to offer. Beautiful beaches, unique landscapes, the chalk cliffs and the racing Roland, a nostalgic train that goes all the way to the mainland, can be experienced here. Of course, there are also seaside resorts, such as Binz and Sellin. Since the island is not very big, you can visit and get to know all the places in one day. Beautiful views can be seen from the cliffs. Lauterbach is a small dreamy place.

About 300 people live in the former fishing village on the Peene River. Quiet it went in its history by no means: 1942 launched in Peenemünde the first rocket into space. A visit to the zoo, city museum or even the Peene Bridge, Germany's largest balance beam bascule bridge, are highly recommended. If you have additional time, a boat tour is a good idea.

A twelve kilometer long beach promenade connects the 40,000-inhabitant town with the Baltic resort of Bansin. Lohnensworthy destination for a walk: the mill beacon, a beaconfire in the shape of a windmill. Who here on the taste comes, can cross by ferry to the island of Wollin and climb the 308 steps of the Swinoujscie lighthouse, which with 68 meters is the highest on the Polish Baltic coast. A special excursion destination is the Dammscher See, at the mouth of the Oder River. Here you can sail or swim in the summer.
